The new year has just started and I bet you’ve been daydreaming about those places you really want to go in the past years. There are plenty of reasons why we should travel in 2019.
If you don’t take action, and miss out this year again, it’s gonna be the same BORING story of your life.
So, why not make 2019 your year to travel and tick those boxes in your bucket list?
Read on and learn why you should book your ticket NOW! umm.. not tomorrow 🙂 and start to get lost for an adventure!
1. There’s no best time than the PRESENT
I often hear some people say “uhh.. maybe next year.. or next next year” until finally they don’t really go for it.
I remember about five years ago I was about to go back home after a very tiring work at the 10th floor of our building in Cebu City in the Philippines when suddenly I felt the entire building shaking.
It was the first time I experienced a very strong earthquake and I even thought it was probably my last day. I was crying deep inside my heart because I wasn’t really ready to die.
I haven’t done so much yet in my life.
It was an eye opener for me. It struck me and pushed me to realize that life isn’t a sure thing. You don’t know when your gonna end your journey in this world and you don’t even know how.
So, think about it. Do something you love and if it’s travel, go somewhere today.
We have different reasons I guess. But putting off your plans in the future has no guarantee. I’m a believer of living your life today.
2. There are so many places to choose from
The places to go from white sandy beaches in the Philippines, the magical temples in Thailand, the crazy motorbike adventure in Vietnam and so much more that the list just goes on and on.
You see, you’ll never run out of new destinations to visit.
I personally like Southeast Asia. The cost of going around is so cheap and still you’ll get the best in life. A $1 beer in Saigon to a $1 Tuktuk ride in Cambodia can get you going for days without stripping off your pockets.
You don’t really need to spend a lot money. And personally I believe true happiness comes when you expect less and appreciate the little things.
It’s the simple pleasure that matters.
3. Traveling has never been easier than today
When I was young, I consider traveling a luxury and only people who has the time and money can do it.
But hey it’s 2019! Traveling in the past was so different than today. Why a lot of people travel now than before? That’s for many reasons:
Finding a cheap airfare is easier now thanks to the many options online without going to a travel agency. Skyscanner and Jetradar are search engines that I use whenever I want to look for the cheapest flight there is.
Booking a hotel is a breeze now with online reservations. Car rentals, ride hailing service and many other transportation services are easily available.
4. Appreciate Life and Your Hard Work
It’s a great feeling when someone appreciates when you’re working hard. I mean give back to yourself.
If you’ve been working so hard all these years why not give yourself a vacation. It doesn’t need to be somewhere expensive.
Traveling can help you to open up your mind and see life and the world in an entirely different way.
You’ll begin to be grateful of what you have in your life and at the same time help you to work harder and be inspired.
5. Get to know yourself better than yesterday
What better way to start the new year than to write a list of things that we want accomplished this year. And most of those things are geared towards becoming a better version of ourselves.
The more you go outside your comfort zone the better you’ll know yourself.
And when you experience something life changing then you’ll realize there’s so much more to see and do.
I’ve met different kinds of people along the way in my travel journey and each one has their own story to tell.
You’ll learn great lessons. Something that you can’t get inside the four corners of where you are right now.
6. Meet new faces and eat a local food you’ve never tried before
You see the same people, the same faces and eat the same food over and over again, do you feel it’s kind of boring? Yes I do.
So, I tried eating grilled Tarantula and Scorpion in Cambodia. It was insane, I tell you. It was probably the most extreme food adventure I ever had.
But did I regret it? Of course not.
I remember before I even tried it someone next to me from Ireland said it was good and I should give it a try. In my mind I was like ‘hell no!”
But I did.
It was something that I can’t forget about that place.
The locals are extremely helpful and friendly. You can see the genuine smiles in their faces.
7. Escape from your day to day routine
If you’re looking for something to help you release that stress from your 9 to 5 job, then traveling is probably one of the best way to do it, if not the best.
Our life has become so hectic and unbearable especially when you are surrounded by negative people at the office or maybe your tired of getting stuck in the traffic everyday.
We need to connect ourselves back to nature.
You need that moment of relaxation.
Why not spend time on the beach? Indonesia and the Philippines undoubtedly has a lot of beautiful islands. They’ve even conquered the top list according to Travel and Leisure The 15 Best Islands In The World.
8. Life is meant to be enjoyed and the world to be explored
The world is just too big and beautiful and more people are traveling now.
If it’s a place you will visit for the first time, get excited and cast your fears.
Whether you want to try crossing the busy streets of Ha Noi in Vietnam where thousands and thousands of motorbikes pass by.
It’s pretty scary at first but when you know the trick you’ll get that ‘aha! I’m gonna be an expert with this!’ Moment or maybe you want to try an overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in Thailand than going on a plane.
I tried my first time painting a clay mug in Siem Reap Cambodia. I was so excited because it looks pretty cool but then it’s gets so tiring when you can’t figure out what you really want it to be.
You know, expectation vs reality. But well, it turns out okay anyway. Sometimes you just have to try it. And I enjoyed it anyway.
If you happen to visit Siem Reap, don’t forget to add this to your activities at Khmer Ceramics Fine Arts Centre. There you can join a pottery or painting class. Each time you book a class you’re also helping the hearing impaired guides & staffs. Plus you also get to bring your masterpieces home. Cool!
I’m pretty sure there’s so much that this world can offer and for us to wander.
9. Tell yourself “Been there, done that!”
I know you would agree in me with this. There’s an out of this world feeling of satisfaction when you did something you’ve been dreaming of before and turns out to be a reality.
It’s a feeling that when you went somewhere and brought back memories that you can’t forget.
But how can you do it if you won’t even think about doing it? Right?
